History of Summersalt
Summersalt was founded in 2017 by Lori Coulter and Reshma Chattaram Chamberlin. Like many good things, the women-led brand evolved from a candid conversation between mother and daughter over the insecurities that swimwear shopping usually brings up.
Lori came up with the idea whilst discussing her mother’s annual trip to Florida and the difficulties that came with struggling to find a swimsuit that actually made her feel good. Recognizing the gap in the market, Lori approached Reshma at an event. And they now laugh over how she cornered her at a dark bar with a pitch deck and a line sheet.
Both Lori and Reshma were based in St Louis—a city not exactly known for its beaches. But it didn’t take long before Lori was onboard with the impeccably well-designed swimwear, as well as the direct-to-consumer business model that allowed them to sell designer quality without the designer price tags.
With the primary goal to flatter every form and celebrate all figures, Summersalt bathing suits resonated with women around the world and quickly acquired cult-favorite amongst Insta it-girls, A-list celebs and less-known faces alike.
